title: My whole post-puberty acne life
date: Wednesday, May 21, 2014 time : 11:29 AM
I want my post-puberty acne life ended as it is now and make no comeback to this again
*fingers crossed*
Received another comment and few emails about skin issue and
dermatologist info again.
That’s why this post
came.
Acne is the most common
issues that many Asian suffer!
Annoying skin issue
Acne problem has been
following me since teenage age of 17.
Being too young to know how to handle a skin problem when it came and without any skin knowledge, I self-diagnosed and tried over-the-shelf products
like Oxy, Clinique, SKII, Chanel etc. Of course it doesn’t get my skin better but
instead worsen the condition .
When I’m out to work
and earn a penny, I went to beauty salon but all they did is extraction, facial
treatment masks and then threw me with their expensive skincare products. No
sign of improvement and reduction of acne, even after 15 or more sessions of
facial treatments but left me with icepick and boxcar SCARS.

Scary experience!
I decided to switch
to another beauty salon.
Silly me, still doesn’t know to get help from the experts 'Skin Doctor'. Continue throwing big sum of money in facial package for a problematic skin condition which really requires proper medication and treatment. But I do feeling better with this salon, since they don’t encourage/do extraction but using technology machine and facial treatment to help. No much signs of improvement; only felt it does made my skin cleaner and less clogged.
The sprouting of
acnes and the whiteheads still irritate the hell out of me!
Someone told me I should get help from professional skin
doctor who would be better in expediting the recovery.
So I went to National Skin Centre and been on their topical
medication for more than half a year, not much improvement. Since this doctor
doesn’t create miracle, I got to find another. Then I went to try the clinic
doctor who treated my friend’s skin, followed him for a year more.
Sign sadly
they don’t hold the remedy to my skin problem.
I couldn’t count how much I have spent on my skin already.
Who treated my 1st
Outbreak, Teenage Acnes?
I was then intro by a friend to this top-notch private dermatologist
who is my savior.
Yes, that’s Dr Joyce
Lim
Ever since then, I have been seeing her for whatever skin
problem for almost 10 years now I think.
I have oily skin
for some reasons like hormonal changes, dead cells
accumulate on the surface of the skin, unhealthy diet, my body will produce
more sebum in response, and with a blockage of sebaceous duct with dead cells
or debris, my skin is more prone to and cause the forming of closed comedone
(whitehead). Usually comedones are associated with acnes. Hence, I have to continue using her skincare products
and do microdermabrasion once every 1 or 2 months to prevent comedones
from forming. I’m always been battling
with those comedones that have been there for years and are still embedded real
deep down underneath the surface of the skin around two sides of my cheek area. There is other
alternative treatment but too painful and expensive to go for. So I decided to rely
on skincare products and microdermabrasion to help and Dr Joyce Lim had told me
that, this will take long time but it help greatly in preventing new one from
coming for sure.
She has been earning a lot of my hard- earned money from her
high cost consultation fee, skincare products and especially skin treatments
(chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatments) that really cost me a BOMB,
but
she managed to CONTROL MY ACNES from sprouting within a
few months.
and I like her cause she is professional and good in
diagnose and will confidently tell you how long you will be expected to see
whether the medication/products work the best
for you.
That had made me love her so much.
And whenever I have skin problem I would definitely turn in to her
first for the diagnose. It takes an
expert to assess your specific condition well, so that you get the best
possible treatment.
Why I see another
dermatologist?
As I get older, I found another skin problem starting the age of 30. It
seems that my skin started to sag slightly. I was then intro to Radiofrequency as maintenance. Yes, I go for it and do it once a
month. Few months later, I was then introduced by my niece to see another skin doctor,
Dr Steven Ang for Radiofrequency as it is relatively much cheaper there. So shun bian, I also consulted him for products to help my
comedone skin too. And his products seem to work better in that for me.
I were then using both skincare products from both Dr Joyce Lim and Dr Steven
Ang
Who treated my 2nd Outbreak, Hormonal Acnes?
The 2nd outbreak episode started in
November 2012, at the age of 31. I struggling with a sudden horrible hormonal acnes due
to hormonal imbalance health condition and posted the entry
on my battle with
hormonal acnes after and how I actually overcome it. That came with many emails and also comments upon
that. There were many readers telling me they faced the same horrible outbreak
and asking for more information and advice.
My heart really went
out to them, extremely knowing how they feel, their frustration struggling with
a horrible outbreak. I’m actually still feeling
frustrated battling with few whiteheads that are still rested real deep below the surface (too deep under the surface to be seen) around two sides of my cheek area. They has such a small follicular opening that is nearly invisible, so no contents can be extruded.
Yes, I am still hoping that relying on prescribed medication and skincare products will remove it in no time. It does help greatly in preventing new one from forming though. Despite having comedone, I really happy that I very very rarely get pimple and acne now; it was well controlled unless my hands get itchy and picking on the whitehead and it become inflamed. Well, if you do read the posts linked up
It is my healthy diet,
improved lifestyle and essential supplement added which I’m still continuing now, that had
cured my horrible hormonal acne, to a STOP in just 2 weeks.
Amazing isn't it!
I didn’t take any
hormone pills or oral medication to balance my hormone and control this the acnes.
Strictly from the diet; only organic, unprocessed food, no meat, no diary product, just 五谷杂粮健, plenty veggies, fruit, filtered water.
For more refer back to
the post
But most often many
will ask after seeing my posts are
-
the dermatologists I visit
-
which dermatologists I would recommend.
-
what skin treatments I had done
This made me think
again today, why seems like not many had asked me about the healthy diet I strictly following, which was what really cured my
hormonal acnes.
erm...weird!
A number of emails I received from readers thought my acnes was cured by the dermatologist I seen.
Here I’m to clarify that my hormonal acnes was cured not entirely because of the dermatologists that I’m seeing, the skin treatments I had done and the products I am using. If you have read, I seen both my dermatologists for my hormonal acnes problem for months, but many acne were still sprouting every new days. ![]() ![]() But I know it would be worst without their medication and peel treatment, that contributed much in controlling to make my skin look not that seriously bad but it was still bad in real life than you see in the photos above. And without their medication and treatment ALL my scars and marks wouldn't have gone (like never ever existent) within 2 weeks (the most) after the acnes stopped popping. My skin was looking good again after just 1 month.
AND so again
MY ACNE was CURED NATURALLY
with healthy organic diet, essential supplements and lifestyle that I had strictly
followed.
Diet has not only cured my acne, it made my skin look even better than before
I will still highly recommended my dermatologists if you need experts help on skin issues
Which Dermatologist I would recommend? Dr Joyce Lim or Dr Steven Ang?
I couldn’t tell you guys
which you should go for because which dermatologist and so what products works
for me may not work for you. I myself am seeing both for different treatment
and medication for my skin problem. They
are both good at certain areas. Is like trial and error. Sometime the
medication prescribed by Dr Joyce Lim may not work that great for me so I turn
in to Dr Steven Ang (his acne medication seem to work better for my skin condition during that period. You know, is like how skincare product will cease effectiveness on our skin after a while. A need to do a little change to the skin regimen).
If to say who is more popular, definitely will be Dr Joyce Lim. She is well known in this
industry. I do personally feel that Dr Joyce Lim is more professional and
experience and she is good in diagnosing the skin condition and give
appropriate treatment as compare to Dr Steven Ang but relatively her price is
very much expensive.

Dr Steven Ang
Dr Steven Ang
skincare products and skin treatment like Chemical peel, PPX, microdermabrasion
and radiofrequency are much cheaper for sure. The skin treatment he recommended
for my skin condition also help greatly in achieving better skin. He is more
smiley and speak more as compare to Dr Joyce Lim.

Here I share too…..
How I
prevent comedone?
Wash Face Regularly Using Right Cleanser
I only wash face twice a day with
the mild gentle cleanser that suits my skin and don’t over dry my skin. It
is important to wash away the excess buildup of oil on our skin. It's also
important not to wash too frequently, as excess washing can cause the body to
produce more sebum in response, which could lead to an increase in comedones.
Stick to My Treatment Regimen Dermatologist RecommendedClosed comedones can be treated by medications, or prescription treatments. However, these take some time to be fully effective and even longer for those really stubborn comedone that is deep under the skin. So it is not an instant relief.Moisturize/Hydrate Regularly
My skin surface can get really dry and may
peel from the topical creams prescribed (but not forget I'm actually an oily skin type). Dry skin will make our sebaceous
glands to secrete more oil to protect our skin. So I have to work a lot on
hydrating my skin but I am very worry when come to using moisturizes that will
oil the skin because many moisturizers leave an oily residue. I only use one
that is given by my dermatologist which suit for my oily skin. One with oily
skin can use a water-based lotion to maintain moisture in your skin. Remember,
our skin needs the water, not oil.
Exfoliate RegularlyGentle exfoliation is require regularly to remove the dead cells that accumulate (natural maturing process) on the surface of our skin. They can plug up the sebaceous duct, hence, a gentle exfoliation can help wear down the blockage allowing the close comedones to unblock itself. I do this once or twice a week, using the one given by Dr Joyce LimMaintain a Healthy Diet
Whiteheads occur because of excess oil production on the skin, or
a blockage of the sebaceous duct with dead cells or debris. After I started
with healthy diet; avoiding fatty or fried foods, it helps greatly in preventing
comedones as well as reduces their severity. I ate lot of fruit and protein
coming from nuts and seeds and substitute oils with high omega-369 and only use
Olive oil in my diet.
The best advice I can give you is don’t give up, keep searching, cause there will surely be someone out there who holds the remedy to your problems. It may not have to be Dr Joyce Lim or Dr Steven Ang. Labels: acne, Beauty, Healthy Body, Share, Skin Regimen, Tips |
