title: Not easy being a mom "What I have been busy with nowadays"

I have been reading a lot about maintaining a good health recently, not only for me but also my children. Now that I have maid, I don't have to spend all of my time doing housechore like the past though I still help as much as I could. But instead I spent most of my time reading up books, articles and newsletters about health, wellness and diet beside other things that I did.

That's the most important to me when come to caring for my kids. That's the love I shower on my kids!

Here my reading today to share, by Evelyn
http://www.topwellnesshealth.com >

Our stomach has a warm optimum temperature that all the digestive acids can work effectively. Moreover, she says that if we were to take oily foods especially, cold drink will tend to solidify the oil, which then produces sludge. Please do not ask me what this “sludge” means, as I have no idea. The sludge will then react with the stomach acid, and the resulting form is absorbed by the intestine much faster than normal. The sludge will then stick onto the intestine and will lead to cancer.
Wow, those statements are so vague. Moreover, such claim is widely circulated on the internet. Some even say that cold water will cause heart attack. Probably they should not have said it without any solid proof.
There were counter-claims: Our stomach has the capacity to increase the temperature as a result of taking in cold water. This will also lead to more energy being burn. Means it burns calorie. However, do not expect that drinking 8 glasses of cold water can help you lose weight. Just get off from the couch and start exercising!

Does drinking ice or cold water affect our digestion?

There is no scientific evidence showing that consuming cold water can affect our digestion.
Our body will be able to equilibrate the water temperature when it enters our body within a matter of seconds to minutes.
However, drink in moderation (not too much of cold water) as our body
has limitations to self-adjust water temperature within our system.

I heard that it is bad to drink water after a meal. But, why can’t we do it, because normally after a meal we would feel thirsty?

Answer:
Our body normally produces its own fluids to help digest food. When food enters our stomach, our stomach lining will release enzymes that could break down proteins in the food. Our stomach lining also secretes hydrochloric acid.
This acid creates an ideal condition for the protein-digesting enzymes to work and protect our body from harmful microbes which enter our body through food.
It is not good to drink too much fluid with or after meals because this will dilute the natural digestive juices and may cause indigestion. If you would like to drink water with meals, you may consider drinking a small glass of warm water or a hot soup.

That brings me to the next topic. Have your mom ever advise you not to take shower (bath) right after you had your meal? It is said that doing so will affect your digestion. Why? Well, because when you eat, food enters the stomach. Concurrently, the blood flow to stomach area increases. If you bathe, your body temperature drops, and the blood flow towards the stomach lessens. Hence, the digestion process is less efficient. This claim has quite a number of scientific backings. As for me, I think I would continue bathing before meals, as I would prefer to enjoy my meals with a fresh and clean body (and mind). Hate eating with all those grime and dirt on me.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

talking about it, I have been strict when come to food given to my children, actually since birth, proper storing of veggie, no seasoning, no unhealthy junk food, no beverage drink or at least keep at a very minimum cause I cannot always control what other people give to them.

I kept this in my hp's album

Whenever my girls throwing tantrum wanting to buy junk food, I will show them this.
So I ask them again "You wanna eat those rubbish and look like this little boy." They will said "No, so scary"

People may said I'm extreme, may said "Woah... no childhood lei.", "没有童年“。But what is sweet, tibits all gonna to do with no childhood? My kids definitely have! Looking at the toys they have, the family outing, fun activities, children gathering, movie they have.

I don't stress them in study.
The only habit I want them to have is reading, reading it as a leisure cause it benefit so much in their study
They have the best childhood!

And that is not the most important to me and what most important is as a parent we did try our best to give them a better health and lifestyle.

A lot of elderly (esp my Dad) telling me in the past all the children also "La Sub Jia, La Sub Dua" (hokkien), - "anyhow eat also grow up healthily". Well, I always argue back it won't be anymore, looking at what the human do to the living thing and environment nowadays. “Modern production of foods incorporates a wide range of synthetic chemicals,” Here a few example:

1) Bovine Growth Hormone: Milk does nobody good...
Bioengineered hormone is injected in the cows every other week to force the cows to produce more milk than their bodies normally would. rBGH is similar, although not identical, to a hormone that the cow naturally produces. Increasing levels of this hormone boosts milk production, causing a number of problems with the milk, among them, raising levels of pus, antibiotics residues and a cancer-accelerating hormone called IGF-1.

Cancer

The presence of rBGH in the cow's blood stimulates production of another hormone, called Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1, or IGF-1. It is IGF-1 that is directly responsible for increasing milk production. rBGH use raises IGF-1 levels significantly (about five times as much, according to Monsanto studies). IGF-1 is a naturally-occurring hormone found in the milk of both cows and humans. It affects cell growth and is responsible for the quick growth of infants in both species. This is why it is biologically present in mother's milk, since it is meant to be consumed by infants. While the IGF-1 hormone already exists in humans, it is usually bound to protein and thus has less of an effect than unbound IGF-1 in milk.
When cow's milk is consumed by human non-infants, it behaves as a cancer-accelerator. IGF-1 is not destroyed in the pasteurization process nor during human digestion and is therefore biologically active in humans, being associated with breast, prostate, and colon cancers.
IGF-1 promotes cell division. As cells divide, at some point they are instructed (by their genes, in combination with hormone signals) to stop dividing or they are instructed to die so that the creation of new cells is matched by the death of cells and no net growth occurs; this is called "programmed cell death." If "programmed cell death" is prevented, then cells don't die at the right time, causing out-of-control growth of cells, which is another way of saying cancer. Cancer is uncontrolled cell division.
Does your whey protein come from sick, factory farmed, hormone injected cows… Chances are it does!
 Scaryyyyyyyyyy......................

2)  Pesticides are developed with the aim of helping the farmer protect crops from damage and thus increase the yield, or the storage life of crops. Pesticides need to be toxic to kill pests. However, a pesticide can be useful only if it kills pests at a small enough dose that causes little or no harm to people, domestic animals and wildlife. It is not easy to establish how much of a pesticide is "safe" for people. Despite many studies done on health effects of each pesticide, there are research gaps. These gaps cause uncertainty in the predictions of long-term health effects of many pesticides. It is thus essential that pesticide exposure be minimized and the presence of pesticide residues in food be regulated and monitored.

“Many of these chemicals have the potential to be very damaging to humans if they are exposed to high concentrations, or to low concentrations over an extended period of time.”

Again...My same saying "It's no longer like the past anymore." We cannot live and think like the past!!
Looking at the cancers rate nowadays! I may anytime diagnose with cancers or any others illness, perhaps everyone had great chance of getting cancer or any other disease / illness from what we have been eating since young, - hormone injected cow milk, pesticides veggies, all processed food etc.

Especially with the kids still gentle and developing body system, we can't depend and overwork their body system to do the cleaning of those toxic from the food they eat.

So the chance is there! and I'm doing my role to help to minimize their chance now

I have been regretting never start eating organic food, veggies and fruit since pregnant with my children.  I believe one's health start from eggs, forming to a baby, or perhaps before a mother is preparing to try for a baby. That's why it is important to eat healthily when you are pregnant and before pregnant! So for expecting mother who aren't eating well and healthily during pregnancy, you think your baby is growing well?
No people can guarantee even if they have been growing well in the womb at good weight. I believe it somehow effect their future health though doctor won't say that to you.

I don't want to continue to intro those food to them anymore. That's why now insist to no preservative, no processed food and only organic when come to cooking daily at home now. When eating out with no choice I will just close one eyes since it is not a daily thing, but we kept it at the minimum, hoping it will reduce the chance of any health condition.

I still give my children formula milk but of course is organic, I still give meat as far as I can buy the organic one. Everything keep to the same, except that I will choose organic and keep to minimum meat and more veggies, fruit and fluid.

Its really not easy being a mom.

"When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts.
A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child."
