title: Singapore Primary One Registration Exercise date: Wednesday, July 11, 2012 time : 6:21 PM
Time flies, and Amabel was going 6 this year in August, which mean she has to go Primary 1 coming year. The annual Singapore Primary One Registration Exercise
to register for Primary One in the following year had started early
this month. We have been pretty stress over the phase that we can fall
in month back. Not sure whether I have update here before, that we didn't
get into parent volunteer work in Rulang Primary School after filling
up the long entry in their contribution template. Due
to the available number
of vacancies for Phase 2B last year was only 19. Using this as an
estimate,
the school has decided to select only 20 Parent Volunteers. Out of about
300 applicants, they only choose 20, hence, we are well prepared for it
though I feel that the work that I can contribute to the school is
pretty helpful. Well, nevermind! Months (May 2011) before we registered
for the parent volunteer, Hus had already applied to be a community
member. He has been very active in those community activities partly
because to get Big A enrolled in Rulang Primary School Phase 2B. Table below shown the Phases and how they allocate the vacancies
Phases
The Registration Exercise is divided into 7 distinct phases: Phase 1, Phase 2A(1),Phase 2A(2), Phase 2B, Phase 2C, Phase 2C(Supplementary),Phase 3.
Allocation of vacancies
There are no reserved limits for Phases up to 2A.
Theoretically, all the available places for the entire exercise could be
taken up in Phase 1, 2A1, or 2A2 should there be enough qualifying
students. In the very popular schools,
however, the take up rate by Phase 2A2 could exceed 75%, leaving less
than a quarter of the places for non-affiliated children, including
those whose parents who have gone through the rigours of parent
volunteering programmes. The places remaining after the end of Phase 2A2 are equally
distributed between Phase 2B and Phase 2C. No places are explicitly
reserved for any Phase subsequent to Phase 2C. This means that for most
popular schools, there are unlikely to be any vacancies left for either
Phase 2C(Supplementary) or Phase 3. This is as stated in the MOE site
As we were talking about the new update on 'Singapore
Primary Schools Ranked By Academic Excellence' for last year performance
and happened to saw the new update on the GMClub website. They
updated 'Singapore Primary Schools Ranked By Academic Excellence', which
was originated from kiasuparents.com (the old article source http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/singapore-primary-schools-ranked-academic-excellence). But kiasu did not update for this
year. And gosh... Rulang Primary School is ranking the Sixth now.

The school has climbing up again and getting even more popular now. But
not a good news came; one of the criteria to be in Phase 2B is to serve actively in
community work for at least a year. It sound like we met the condition
(from May 2011 to July 12 = more than 1 year?!?!), but the thunder
strikes knowing that 'a year' is from the date you get confirmed as a
community member (Member only get confirmed after 3 months probation).
Hence, he is only considered serving for 11 month+; just about 2 weeks
late. :( Well,
as Hus has been serving pretty well and actively, hence, the advisory,
chairman and leaders have all trying their best to help out by writing an appeal letters to Mr Yam
Ah Mee (CED-designate of the People's Association).
What so nervous and stress is that whether the appeal is successful
will only be known, few days before Phase 2B registration date start on 19 July (shown in the table below). Yes, we are still waiting now :(

Were checking on the update on the vacancies; so far only left 102
vacancies for Phase 2A2. Were so nervous, how many vacancies is gonna
left for Phase 2B (if our appeal successful) and Phase 2C, shall see the
update again after Phase 2A(2) registration ended on 13 July.
We're staying very near to the school, within 1km and definitely we deserve to get a seat in this school that is near to our home. We really hope we can go register on 19 July (Phase 2B) for higher chance ...............*Praying hard*
