title: On Cloud 9
date: Wednesday, May 13, 2015 time : 10:15 PM
Life is pretty crazy for the past few weeks...
preparing with kids for their upcoming tests.
Poor gals have been camped at home most days doing their homework and revising.
Today was Aisleyne last paper, I was as happy as her.
I got Amabel to revise and do some online activities herself for that hour with my helper looking after her whilst I went to fetch Aisleyne from school and brought her to catch some fresh air.
Upon seeing me at the gate waving at her,
she quickly told her teacher that "my mommy is here".
Ran, squeezed her way to me and jumped up into my arms,
wrapped her arms and legs around me,
we were really on cloud 9 "tests are OVER".
I felt so much relieve now, one last paper for my elder girl tomorrow but
at least I don't have to stress over revising with 2 kid today.
and the whole night she was already like telling the whole world,
repeatedly saying "I can rest
now, my tests are OVER"
hahhahaha bth
and finally she had time to facetime with her aunt and yakking about everything
It has been hard on you and your jiejie...
No matter what the result is, am gonna reward them for putting so much effort
and underwent my super strict coaching. 👍
Finally, I can sleep much better tonight.

title: Quick update: Coping with homework stress and busy schedule
date: Monday, January 19, 2015 time : 5:16 PM
I really really wanna update this space more often like the
past
but even the spare time I have, is not enough!
So here, a quick one again...
Ever since Aisleyne was in Primary 1, I need to spend even
more time than usual on their schoolwork. Most of the time at home; after work
and on a weekend, before n' after our usual family's weekend activities, I need
to be seated in with the kids for long hours coaching their schoolwork.
Getting burned out all days!
I know beginning is always the hardest and understand that
schoolwork is often the most difficult part of the child’s busy schedule.
I hope as it goes, everything will turn out to be better.
For now, Aisleyne is really struggled with a writing
disability, she requires a close guidance and monitoring which made the work
and the amount of time required feel unending at times - both to her and to me.
I know children are all different in how they feel about and
approach homework and I can’t possibly coped teaching 2 of my kids at a time
especially during weekdays (with just that 1 or 2 hours for so many homework to
guide) after back from work, so husband got to step in and took on the
responsibility in helping with our elder girl, Amabel for her subjects.
It helped the routine become more consistent and effective
for our girls.
.... that has always been me, strict and firm in whatever
And all the while, Hus has been taking the responsibility in
teaching Amabel for her Maths since Primary 1 because she is very weak in Maths!
I don’t know why and no matter how I explained to her, she just doesn’t get it.
I was frustrated; losing my cool and when I’m….Amabel got frightened
and stressed out. This is likely not going to help her get the work done and
learned, Hus is definitely much more patience than me and hence the better
person to take on the responsibilities “teaching” her. But often, I still need
to step in to monitor, teach and get her to be more discipline and learn for
her Maths.
But one thing that is great about Amabel is that she is a
self-motivated child, who came home, bathes, has her meal, sat down and dug
into their homework. When we are back and for their homework time, we just
need to check and teach her on those difficult one.
It is really a struggle for Aisleyne because she’s studying afternoon
session, back home bathe, dinner and has to start doing her homework already.
So if her sister finishes her homework more quickly, I have to get her to be
respectful of her sister by doing non-disruptive activities quietly.
— but well even with this division of labor with Hus, we still had to make
adjustments to our schedules, our lives and our expectations to make sure our kids
turned it in on time.
We also have to manage and plan our time really well even on a
weekend now.
@Jurong East Big Box
Now our Saturday meetup time with friends is always late afternoon
but Amabel will be engaged in tuition.
just me and Aisleyne on the past Saturday, on the way to meet Meiqi, Sereen and their boys
So I need to make up for her on a Sunday
where I will plan something for kids again and keep them away from books for
hours to relax and reward them with fun activities with their friends and cousin.
@ East Coast Park with cousin and sis-in-law
psst...i hope I have the time to blog on this soon too
HOMEwork is really a chore for both the child and parent.
I thought both girls are now bigger, required less care but
nope! In fact, I’m busier now when both are in primary school. Lol~
And to make the learning a breeze, I set a clear expectation
around homework time and their responsibilities. I get them to know that I
expected them to get the work done on time and to try their best, the best of
their abilities.
They should take control and know that homework is another
part of their daily responsibilities, and my responsibility is to guide them,
make suggestion, support them through the challenging tasks, and teach them
about personal responsibility only.
Same for checking their time-timetable daily and knowing
what to pack for their own school bag for the next day. Aisleyne is still
learning it now, since she’s just into her 3rd week in primary school. So far,
she has adapted to primary school culture and her writing ability is slowly improving
and able to write her words neatly and be responsible in her schoolwork and get
thing done without throwing tantrum.
Have a little fun in between, adding in break time for kids and we took
a vlog
haa....
lots of pics in my cameras and I hope I can be back soon again to blog about their first week of school.

title: P1 Registration Update
date: Friday, August 17, 2012 time : 4:41 PM Went to register for P1 in Boon Lay Garden under Phase 2C Supplementary on the last day of registration,15th Aug. It's not fun going through the need to appeal (Phase 2B) and balloting (Phase2C). Took a number of day of annual leave to get all these done. We also sought help from MP during 'Meet the people' session, he asked us to write in to him privately. So we wrote an email to request for an aid to grant a place in a primary sch (which is only Shuqun and Rulang) within 1km radius of our house. I know everyone will do that and so the appeal may not be easy but we can support with good reasons; the need to take care my MIL's daily routines as she's basically bedridden and the rush to send my younger daughter to and fro the childcare which is already very far (got his reply that as ours is special case, he will try his best to help us, hopefully ours went through). We also put my girl's name under waiting list for both schools right after we failed in getting a place in Phase 2C. We're trying all means and channels, hoping can get a place in either one. Really feeling stupid for my girl to take schoolbus to school when there are actually 2 schools that are within a 5 mins walking distance. Is like 看的到, 吃不到. WTF right!! This MOE's allocation scheme is really unfair especially to those who staying within 1km. We're trying our best to do what we can now. The rest will leave it to the god's hand and my girl when entering P1. Labels: Educate, education, Primary School ADVERTISEMENTS
title: Singapore Primary One Registration Exercise - Update for Phase 2b vacancies
date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012 time : 11:30 AM Grumpy face looking at the final update for Phase 2B's vacancy, ended up 85 registered for Phase 2A2 and all went through. Congrats to them but is mad sad for others like us :,( Only 10 vacancies left for Phase 2B applicants to fight, so balloting is confirm needed. And bad bad bad that, now still no news on whether our appeal success (chances is low too as they are now pretty strict). Even so, the chances on winning the Phase 2B balloting is gonna be extreme low. :( Jurong West
Well, have to start thinking on the alternative nearby school for Phase 2C: - Shuqun Primary which again could be very slim too :,,,,,( Why like that?! Why do we need to suffer all this stress. Last time where got parent fighting over school vacancy. Terrible!!! Labels: Educate, education, Primary School ADVERTISEMENTS
title: Singapore Primary One Registration Exercise - Vacancies Update
date: Friday, July 13, 2012 time : 11:03 AM Latest update I got from MOE website for Rulang Primary School's vacancies Jurong West
Source: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies/ Vacancy for Phase 2A2 changed from 102 to 104, apparently 2 of the applicants must be disqualified. So now out of 104 vacancies, 79 applicants; if all qualify, which mean will left 25 vacancies to be equally distributed between Phase 2B and Phase 2C. This system really terrible and seems quite unfair to those who stay near within 1km to the school!! Imagine about 13 vacancies to be fight among 20 PVs and unknown number of applicants from church/clan or community members. Argh..... the chances seem so low now. Got to really pray hard that the vacancies left wasn't this low! Labels: Educate, education, Primary School ADVERTISEMENTS
title: Singapore Primary One Registration Exercise
date: Wednesday, July 11, 2012 time : 6:21 PM Time flies, and Amabel was going 6 this year in August, which mean she has to go Primary 1 coming year. The annual Singapore Primary One Registration Exercise to register for Primary One in the following year had started early this month. We have been pretty stress over the phase that we can fall in month back. Not sure whether I have update here before, that we didn't get into parent volunteer work in Rulang Primary School after filling up the long entry in their contribution template. Due to the available number of vacancies for Phase 2B last year was only 19. Using this as an estimate, the school has decided to select only 20 Parent Volunteers. Out of about 300 applicants, they only choose 20, hence, we are well prepared for it though I feel that the work that I can contribute to the school is pretty helpful. Well, nevermind! Months (May 2011) before we registered for the parent volunteer, Hus had already applied to be a community member. He has been very active in those community activities partly because to get Big A enrolled in Rulang Primary School Phase 2B. Table below shown the Phases and how they allocate the vacancies Phases The Registration Exercise is divided into 7 distinct phases: Phase 1, Phase 2A(1), Phase 2A(2), Phase 2B, Phase 2C, Phase 2C(Supplementary), Phase 3. Allocation of vacancies ![]() There are no reserved limits for Phases up to 2A. Theoretically, all the available places for the entire exercise could be taken up in Phase 1, 2A1, or 2A2 should there be enough qualifying students. In the very popular schools, however, the take up rate by Phase 2A2 could exceed 75%, leaving less than a quarter of the places for non-affiliated children, including those whose parents who have gone through the rigours of parent volunteering programmes. The places remaining after the end of Phase 2A2 are equally distributed between Phase 2B and Phase 2C. No places are explicitly reserved for any Phase subsequent to Phase 2C. This means that for most popular schools, there are unlikely to be any vacancies left for either Phase 2C(Supplementary) or Phase 3. This is as stated in the MOE site As we were talking about the new update on 'Singapore Primary Schools Ranked By Academic Excellence' for last year performance and happened to saw the new update on the GMClub website. They updated 'Singapore Primary Schools Ranked By Academic Excellence', which was originated from kiasuparents.com (the old article source http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/singapore-primary-schools-ranked-academic-excellence). But kiasu did not update for this year. And gosh... Rulang Primary School is ranking the Sixth now.
The school has climbing up again and getting even more popular now. But not a good news came; one of the criteria to be in Phase 2B is to serve actively in community work for at least a year. It sound like we met the condition (from May 2011 to July 12 = more than 1 year?!?!), but the thunder strikes knowing that 'a year' is from the date you get confirmed as a community member (Member only get confirmed after 3 months probation). Hence, he is only considered serving for 11 month+; just about 2 weeks late. :( Well, as Hus has been serving pretty well and actively, hence, the advisory, chairman and leaders have all trying their best to help out by writing an appeal letters to Mr Yam Ah Mee (CED-designate of the People's Association). What so nervous and stress is that whether the appeal is successful will only be known, few days before Phase 2B registration date start on 19 July (shown in the table below). Yes, we are still waiting now :( Registration PhasesDetails of the different phases are shown below.
Note:
Were checking on the update on the vacancies; so far only left 102 vacancies for Phase 2A2. Were so nervous, how many vacancies is gonna left for Phase 2B (if our appeal successful) and Phase 2C, shall see the update again after Phase 2A(2) registration ended on 13 July. Jurong West
Source: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies/Stress stress stress laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..................................... We're staying very near to the school, within 1km and definitely we deserve to get a seat in this school that is near to our home. We really hope we can go register on 19 July (Phase 2B) for higher chance ...............*Praying hard* Labels: Educate, education, Primary School |
