THE MESSAGE ON SANITARY PADS

Saw this warning about the dangers of women wearing various brands of absorbent sanitary pads for more than five hours per day was broadcasted on the Internet recently and knowing that indeed there are many ladies out there wearing their sanitary pad for long hours (more than 5 hours) or whole days especially on their low flow days so I will like to post it here for those who have not seen it cause I care.

Attention Sisters!!!

FORWARD AS U RECEIVE:

56 girls died because of using whisper, stayfree, etc.

One Single pad for the whole day because of the chemical used in Ultra Napkins. Which converts liquid into gel. It causes cancer in bladder & uterus. So please try to use cotton made pads and if you are using ultra pads, Please change that with in 5 hours, per day, at least.

If the time is prolonged the blood becomes green & the fungus formed gets inside the uterus via vagina.

Please don't feel shy to fwd this message to all girls and even boys so that they can share with their wives n friends, whom they care for.

This is a public service message...........”

I don't how true the message is but well I always feel that it will pose some health risks if one uses just a sanitary pad throughout a day / more than 5 hours.

Having your periods is one of the most important rites of a female. You will get different types sanitary pads (cotton, gel, long, short, with wings or without, thin or thick, tampon or panty liner) that can be used during your periods. But are these sanitary pads safe? Yes, I think they are safe to use but maybe for a limited time only as prolonged use of a single sanitary may poses some of the health risks. Well, this is what I read.
That's why I always ensure I change my pad every 4 to 5 hours no matter what. And because of this message and being so much health conscious than before had drawn my attention to find out more online and I found this site and video which explains most of what you can find online.

Most conventional sanitary pads available in the market are thought to make from plastic and contain crude oil and other potentially harmful chemicals, used in odor neutralizers and fragrances. Even the chemicals used in the absorbent materials (polyacrylates, polypropylene and polyethylene) of sanitary pads raised health concerns, and so did the bleaching agents used to make them appear pure. The use of synthetic fibers which are backed with plastic lining for the panty makes contact with other toxic chemicals can leads to burning and soreness of delicate tissues in a female vaginal area especially if you are susceptible to allergies.

The skin around the vaginal area in women is more permeable to wide range of artificial chemicals. Moreover, a woman’s body may often be at its weakest during menstruation, so the woman’s health could be affected with usage of harmful sanitary pads and tampons. Plus, these materials obstruct the free flow of air and trap the heat and dampness in the panty, and when used for prolonged hours can cause irritation, which further promotes the growth of yeast, bacteria and cause infection in the vaginal area. That’s why it is so common to hear women develop yeast and bacteria in the vaginal. If you are in healthcare line you will know. These were in fact thought to pose health risks as mentioned in the messages. This is why it is very important for sanitary pads and panty liners to allow air flow.

In the video above, Andrea held a fire test to check and compare the safety and quality of commercially available sanitary and the organic counterpart. As shown in the video, she tested Always Infinity pads from Procter & Gamble with undisclosed ingredients with Natracare pads made of 100% organic cotton, cellulose from wood pulp and corn starch. When set on fire, the commercial Always Infinity pads burned quickly with foul smell, emitting lot of black smoke, indicating the possible presence of chemicals like synthetic fibers and petrochemicals.

Considering the above facts, it is evident that there is certain amount of risk/side effects of using the commercially available feminine products, especially with the ones whose ingredients are not disclosed.

It is because of these potential risk factors, I have opted for organic sanitary pads.

These are made with natural cotton which is a breathable fiber and healthier option for your body. They are not synthetically made and are chlorine, toxin free, hypo allergic and soothing with no artificial odors.

And before I end this post, I'm so happy  that I had a regular menstruation cycles of 28 days for 3 months already. My hormone condition had resulted in irregular cycles between 35 to 40 days which is abnormal. Hope this continue....... and gonna do a gynae check again in December on whether my hormone are back to normal.
