title: My Skin Condition Update and Skincare Routine
date: Friday, August 30, 2013
time : 1:42 AM

Do you get hormonal acne outbreak like me.

This is my skin condition last year December gone to the dog, this is actually slightly better after few salicylic acid peel procedure.

I suffered that for almost 3 months before deciding to do a hormone blood test. Indeed that's the cause of the terrible outbreak. I had almost 2 to 3 big painful swell acne popped out daily and each take weekss to subside despite the use of the usual skincare I have been using to control acne and whiteheads. I even went to dermatologist for a change of skincare to target those stubborn acnes and also went for salicylic acid peel which help greatly in healing but nothing can stop many new one from coming out.

If you suspect you're having hormonal outbreak like me, I would suggested you seeing doctor for a hormone blood test, no point changing skincare or apply ton of products because those will never help solve the root of your skin problem. Is a waste of $$ and you got nothing but scaring.

Because hormones affect so many different aspects of physiology, the outward symptoms tend to be varied and nonspecific. It may feel as though you are simply tired or upset after an unusually stressful or busy week. With a hormonal imbalance, a person may suffer from anxiety, insomnia, loss of appetite, aging and poor concentration. Irritability and mood swings are also quite common. Hormonal balance is critical for our emotional well-being, so radical changes in the way we feel about ourselves and interact with others may indicate a problem.

Some physical indicators of a possible hormonal imbalance include sudden weight gain, acne, hair loss, night sweats, and reduced libido. Women may experience intense premenstrual symptoms, vaginal dryness, yeast infections, and hot flashes. Some women also suffer from unusually heavy, irregular, or painful periods. Infertility may also be the result of a hormonal imbalance. I didn't have many of those, thank god just those stupid acnes and also irregular menses with eggs not releasing. And don't belittle hormonal imbalance, it will higher the chances of cancers and many other health condition.

If a hormonal imbalance is suspected, your doctor can take blood for laboratory tests designed to detect hormone levels and determine whether they're within a normal range. Most doctor/gynea will recommend to take hormone pills to control the condition but I choose other wise. My gynae was very supportive with me using the "Healthy diet and lifestyle" treatment. Yes, I combat my hormonal acne outbreak within 2 weeks with healthy diet (organic food, no preservative product, no sugar, no salt, all natural - you may look at my past posts on my dieting) and lifestyle.

This is my skin condition just after a week. Those huge acne subsided, skin not as red and bumpy compare to the past and no more new acne

2 to 3 weeks after, almost all cleared up and even scar clear very fast (could be the help of my usual skincare too)

And I didn't get any new acne/pimples for almost 6 months since I started on healthy dieting and lifestyle.

Here I sharing my today 'Night Time Skincare Routine'.

Bare skin with Clarisonic brush for cleansing face is very helpful in deep cleansing the pore especially if you do make-up for the day. But recently my this device malfunction after 3 years of using i think. Definitely gonna purchase for a new

Here the video of the skincare routine and products I used last night

For nose blackhead which I not having much of this problem, but well I'm using this if need. There is another very good one which I forgot to take pic. Will update here again tonight

When I feel my skin need more hydrating, i will apply this to sleep alone. I will do it like once a week.

This is like almost the same purpose as my Bliv, I use it on top of my usual skincare during the night if I see big whitehead or clogged pore.

Mask which I prefer blogged about it. This is like once a week depend on my mood to use.

Fav eye steam mask which i talk about it in previous post

How I look on normal days, bare skin!

pardon my ugly dark undereyes and spec

So that is all.
My skin condition now is much better than before I suffering from the hormonal acne outbreak. But I do still have pit hole scar problem left from teenage outbreak time, which nothing can help except subcision follow with microdermabrasion which the procedure and treatment are too expensive for me to go for. So shall just let it be, didn't really bother me too much.

After makeup, skin almost look almost perfect here

So don't wait if you get terrible outbreak, go for the hormone blood test to confirm before you spend a bomb on skincare.

Hi Anon,

I don't have blackhead problem. For the whiteheads I still couldn't 100% getting rid of it for those really embedded deep underneath the skin.I didn't do any extraction for that as it may cause scarring so I solely depend on applying skin products which took really long time but it help greatly in preventing new one from coming and of cos prevent acne too, if for your case not cause by hormonal imbalance. I may try another skin clinic doc (DRX) for alternative products if my current docs can't help further. Anyway the following are the skin doc I am current seeing if my skin need help.

Hi Lynn,

If was to say about who is more popular, definitely will be Dr Joyce Lim. I also personally feel that Dr Joyce Lim is more professional and experience but relatively her price also very expensive. They are both good at certain areas so I can't really advise you. I myself also seeing both for different treatment and medication for my skin problem. Is like trial and error. Some time the medication prescribed by Dr Joyce Lim may not work well for me so I turn in to Dr Steven Ang (his acne medication well better for me). I would said all those dermatologists also test and try the treatment and medication on patients, if the medication work well for you, you continue else they just change another one for you to try. Is their experiences and diagnose part that matter, if this case I would said Dr Joyce Lim. Anyway, during my teenage outbreak is being healed by Dr Joyce Lim, hence till to date whenever I have skin problem I turn in to her first for the diagnose. Hope this help

Hi Anonymous,

I did my hormonal test by my gynae in Thomson Medical Centre. You can read more here http://mypreciousangel.blogspot.sg/2013/02/change-of-lifestyle-n-dietary-choice.html
It is best you do some medical test if you suspected your acnes is health related, at least you know whether that is the root of it. Do you have persisting acne like mine which like everyday you will pop a number of new one?

For recommendation of dermatologist. You may read my recent post here. Both are good in certain areas though but I do mentioned some view about them

1) Salicylic Acid Peel
I did this for active acnes and help improve clogged pores and congested skin. Sometime I will experience some post-peel purging. As the acid exfoliates away the surface of your skin, it brings clogs you have from underneath closer to the top, which may erupt as more active pimples but which is good coz it's decongesting the skin. Acne didn't last as long as usual, it disappeared quicker than usual. Breakouts decreased after, skin then appear clearer and scars fades. It required a few sessions to see a much better result.

2) RF treatments
My first experience with RF treatment is at Dr Steven Ang Clinic. More details about the treatment can see this post too http://mypreciousangel.blogspot.sg/2013/05/who-doesnt-want-firmer-skin.html

3)PPX
It is a Pore-Cleansing ACNE Treatment, a painless treatment broadband light that flashes, helping to destroy bacteria, help rid your skin of acne-causing impurities, so your acne is faster cleared while your pores are cleansed simultaneously. I felt my acne heal faster, but as for de-gunk my pores not very much! This also requires a number of sessions in order to achieve better results.
