title: It wasn’t a good month, the June! date: Thursday, July 25, 2013 time : 11:16 AM
Just found that this wasn't published earlier but ended up in the draft :( so here it is which supposed to post on 25 June actually.
First, Haze crisis caused by Indonesian
forest fires in Sumatra have created vast palls of smoke blowing eastwards
towards southern Malaysia and Singapore.
The fires were started by plantation
owners and farmers to clear land cheaply. The acrid smoke creep into
people's flats. You can see that peoples covered their faces with handkerchiefs
while walking outdoors before it gets really worst the next day. Then a lot of peoples
started complaining of coughs, dry throat, ear blocked, eczema, headache etc. People
scaling back their activities in a bid to protect themselves. Fast-food deliveries
have been cancelled. The hospital I were working at also shut windows in wards with elderly patients
to keep out the acrid odour of burning.
Lot of peoples start wearing
masks or covers their nose as they travel to and from home, with major pharmacies
telling people they have temporarily run out of masks.
On June 21, Singapore's smog index hit
the critical 400 level, making it potentially life-threatening to the ill and
elderly people. The elderly and children were told to reduce strenuous outdoor
activity and stay indoor as far as possible.
I'm so worry for the health that I made myself and my girl even wearing mask at home.
The haze was expected to persist for an
unknown number of days because of wind and weather conditions.
Just when the haze got better below PSI 100 for the past 2 days, brought another weather surprise - hail!
And TODAY 25 June, in the afternoon, after many hazy days, the rain comes as a relief. But with the rain,
came something a extra - hailstone. Readers from Jurong and Bukit Batok
Street 34 sent in these clips.
I have to keep pao pi-ing that my window won't crack. Lol~ but really scary , that the hailstone are flying everywhere. For the past weeks, need to wear masks and now alamak need to wear helmet :(
