title: Independent learners as they grow
date: Sunday, October 14, 2012

Every Saturday morning, Amabel has to attend her 'I Can Read' enrichment class. Before the class starts, we will stay in the centre's library for them to read story books.

Amabel can read pretty well without very much help now but she is not yet a fluent reader. She can recognizes most of the words she encounters, and deciphers occasional words she does not recognize; we can see her moving her mouth while reading, trying to translate the written word to spoken word before being able to understand what she is reading. However, she can read a number of books independently and discuss the plot and characters.

I think she will take a while more to be no longer mouthing while reading and speed up of her reading gradually increases. With 'I Can Read', it will definitely help speed up the progress.

What I have to teach her...

As for Aisleyne, she knows the phonic sound of most letters, can recognize all letters but still has a little difficulties in writing out all letters (needs help with letter G, K, N and R) and can say out words that beginning with the letter for most letters. She is one that is very impatience when come to reading, writing and basically everything she do, hence is really a big headache for us, as I think it will greatly affect her learning progress. :(

Now she's still unable to read and I'm planning to enroll her in 'I can read' soon.
Haha here a video of her trying to read in her own way, her own story lol~

More on Aisleyne... she got me real angry yesterday while having her dinner. She took really long to eat her meal despite me kept telling her to speed up when I caught her a number of time idling and playing with the things on her dining table rather than holding on to her spoon and fork. I told her she had used up her chances and that I have to cane to punish her.

She cried for more than half an hour non-stop... nope I didn't went up to pamper her... that's not me! Till she got so tired that she fell a sleep at the naughty corner. Well, today she ate very fast, though I still need to warn her a few times.

Wake her up and bathe her, giving me a super PITY face still

Made her a cup of warm milk before putting her to bed

Yes, I started her sister with cup for milk feed as she turned 4. So now that Aisleyne turned 4, of cos she is on cup feed too. Just that for weekday morning milk feed, most of the time she is still on bottle; I have problem waking her up for milk as she is still asleep. Bottlefeed will be so much easier as she can drink milk while partially sleeping. If you don't understand what I mean ->

For the sister, Amabel, I have no problem waking her up for breakfast, she is already used to it and will not throw much tantrum even if she is still sleepy. And for Aisleyne, I will not let this continue for long, I will work harder to try to settle them to bed much earlier, so she will wake up earlier without being so cranky. Even can't, I don't have much choice but to get her up even if she cries. Will see which to go...

For both my gals, I let them try learning to brush their own teeth when they are 3. They are still doing it now and I will alway do a thorough and gentle brush for them after they brushed. Going to bring both for another routine dental check again.

Their bedtime, here Aisleyne posing after we had awhile of bedtime chat lol~ and as usual a 'Goodnight' & kiss n bear hug

Woke up for their breakfast
this morning....her  morning milk feed and a bar of cheese.
