Baby Food Journal

I learnt that weaning is a very important stage of our baby's life, especially that now we are dealing with a immature liver; anything that goes wrong when come to weaning may cause long term problem on them.
I saw alot of mommies started introduce their babies with solid when they are 4 or 5 months. But for me, I feel more comfortable to start my baby at the age of 6 months, if she has been growing well with the milk and I don't wish to straining their tiny immature stomach and liver and of course don't want to takes the risk of them getting allergies.
Although weaning to intro solid food is important but milk is still the main source of food for a baby.

Weaning starts @ 6 months
I got a separate kitchen utensil just for my kid and baby food.

1 -> 2oz freezer cube
2 -> spatula
3-> oil ladle
4 -> Meat mincer
5 -> soup scoop
6 -> Knife for meat
7 -> Knife for fruit
8 -> Knife for veggies
9 -> Scissor
10 -> knife sharpener
11 -> Timer
12 -> baking mould
13 -> measuring spoon
14 -> ziploc bag
15 -> disposable plastic bag
16 -> chopping board for veggies only
17 -> chopping board for fruit only
18 -> chopping board for meat
19 -> chopping board for fish
20 -> peeler (new good buy, can even cut the veggies into different shape)
21 -> rice cooker
22 -> 1oz freezer cube

23 -> slow cooker for porridge / soup / stock
24 ->U Like blender (my favourite)
24a -> use to make soya milk
24b -> use to blend puree or juice
24c -> use to grind ikan billis/rice etc
25 -> grinding of rice in large amount

26 -> frying pan
27 -> Steamer
28 -> metal plates

29 -> small saucepan (can use to steam small portion of food / cooking noodle soup etc)
30 -> stacker

31 -> Baby food maker
32 -> crockery (miss out the pic)

I Always wash the hand with soap before touching the baby food.
I introducing one food at a time, and give it continuously for 4 days before introducing another new food. Cause it can take three or four days for a reaction to show up so in this way I will instantly know what food my baby is having a reaction to and can stop immediately.

These are some points which I ensure:
- I let her try vegetable purees before fruit ones. Fruit is sweeter and often more preferable than vegetables, as trying fruit first may make it harder to persuade the baby to eat vegetables.
- For now is just cereal (I started them with rice cereal then brown rice), homemade fruit and veggies puree
- I try to limit the number of sweet or cereal purees to one a day, and always include a vegetable puree.
- Retain the vitamins of the food by making sure I don't overcook the food and try to steam the food in bigger chunk or portion to reduce the lose of vitamins
- Retain the freshest of the food and prevent it harvesting fast; I keep the cooked food or raw food into the fridge or freezer asap.
- I Gradually make the food a thicker consistency.
- I don't give oatmeal / barley (cereal) / wheat / Yeast until they turned 9 months due to the possibility of 'Gluten Intolerance'
- I don't introduce citric fruit like strawberry, orange, kiwi until they are 1 year old
- I choose organic leafy vegetable for now and I don't feed them with the shoots
- I dont intro diary product until they are 1 year old
- I don't use oil or butter for now
- I don't introduce seafood and nut (peanut) until they turn 3 year old or even 4 year old; peanuts and seafood are likely to cause the most severe reactions,
- I don't give them eat chocolate
- I don't give Del monte brand banana
- I don't feed anything raw or unripe
- I wont start her with porridge till she is 7/8 months
- I don't introduce fish until they are 8 months, meat will be later part maybe at 9 months
- I don't add salt, sugar when I cook for my kids and won't buy stuffs that contain high amount of these synthetic additives
- I don't add honey (is dangerous for children under the age of one because of the danger of botulism poisoning) or other sweeteners
- I don't use chinese herbs (red dates, wolfberries etc) until they turns 1 year old, as it may preserved with don't know what which may be harmful to their immature stomach.
- I won't intro EGG before they turn 1 year (according to some reference web, indicated egg yolk can be intro at 9 month (make sure you hard boil it very thorough) but egg white must be after 1 year)

Eling, the sweet potato actually shouldn't be blended, in fact for potatoes as well. You'll break down the enzymes and you'll get sticky starch, which might cause stomach upset and change of taste. Not very good for babies la.. For both potatoes, you just need to fork mash. In fact it's better to try using the fork to mash anything before you resort to blender (=

Bren, I didn't know that we shouldn't blend sweet potato and potato leh. Cause I remember during our baby puree class, we were blending sweet potato? Or no one in the class mentioned that it should be blended? That y then i all along have been doing this for Amabel leh; I blending it to store in the freezer unless is to feshly serve then I will just mash it.So I got to use mashing method and freeze instead?

Think I shall just update it here. Don't want my reader to follow the wrong way of making starchy veg(sweet potato/potato etc). I had clarified with her.
anything that is starchy we dont blend instead should mash it; other rest is ok to blend.
Whatever that can mash, just mash, blend should be the 2nd alternative.

Lesson learnt this time
We should not take young babies as a test baits. If got doubt ask or look at more sources for more information. Don't based on what others are doing then we follow. Need to apply logic to it, even doctors can make mistake.
True!
