title: 30 - 31 Jan 2014 [除夕夜和大年初一]
date: Friday, March 07, 2014 time : 5:11 PM
All Chinese know.... Chinese New Year is the most
important event in the
Chinese calendar. It begins on the first day of the
lunar calendar, so it is also called Lunar New Year and it's more passion of every Chinese
in celebrating the start of a new lunar year, rather than a calendar year.
除夕夜 Chinese New Year’s Eve kicks off the 15 days long festivities. So what we did on this day? We still have to work and the kids still need to attend school for morning half since it was on a weekday. Daddy heading home to fetch Amabel and helper whilst I went to childcare to fetch Aisleyne and met at Tiong Bahru to their grandparent' house for praying, worship lunch and reunion dinner. Every time we told the girls that we're going to 奶奶 and 爷爷 or 阿公 and 婆婆 house, they get really happy. There are a few activities that we will do and welcoming Lunar New Year.
Beginning in the afternoon,Worship Ancestors:
Traditionally, the festival was a time
to honor deities as well as our ancestors and welcome the New Year.
Families given offerings
for blessings and protection over the past year.
We also burn sticks of incense and stacks of paper
mone
caught her eating snack alreadyok CNY festive, gave you chance, don't wanna nag much. you're saved. Lol~ Having worship lunch at uncle's house just beside PIL's house. Aisleyne has been really sensible girl when come to helping out in housework and so very initiative in serving rice for others and clearing the plates after meals. These are my kids have to do at home, so they are use to it. Only thing I will stop them from, is helping out in cooking. Always warn them not to go near the stoves. Not even if they are in higher primary school, told them when they are bigger like secondary school 3 then will let them learn and help out in cooking. Too dangerous for a kid without much knowledge of the caution they need to take. Even with supervise, I won't take such risk. No one should! ![]() Barefooted, that I had to start nagging at them. Yah, me being OCD Often, the evening preceding Lunar New Year's Day is an occasion for Chinese families to gather for the annual reunion dinner. at night, after took a bath at in law's house
Every member of the family starts the New Year off right
with Wear New Clothes:
From head to toe, all clothes and accessories worn on New Year’s
Day should be brand new. But we're not to that extreme to wearing brand new accessories, bra, underwear which many opt to wear lucky red. And this year no the traditional Chinese clothing
like qipao but just the regular, Western-style clothing like dresses, skirts, pants and shirts.
Early the next morning
after New Year’s eve, the children greet us the parents by wishing us a happy new year, and we will Give Red Envelopes, (hongbao/angbao) to them containing 'lucky money to them and younger generation as a form of blessing! I think right now my girls are still very young to look forward to angbao but more looking forward to the goodies snacks and plays they get together with the cousins
All the expressions! See how happy they are, told them must smiles like the pretty doll on the angbao ![]()
the smiles and happiness were too precious that I just wanna post all up
The first place we visit to 拜年 is always in law's place. Decorations and traditions to bring Chinese New Year to life. Walls and doors are decorated with lucky red paper decorations and these are tie said to bring 'good fortune' or 'happiness', 'wealth' and 'longevity'. The cousins ![]() My super vain girl, dug out my makeup from pouch. Didn't stop her cause I wanna capture what she will do next. she will get to see how vain she is when she grow up. LOL~ figuring out I'm pretty surprise, she knew how to use those tools haha... I don't encourage put on makeup for kids at such young age but too cute la, I made sure I washed it very clean away, no more residue left
Adults will chit-chat and
catch up with one another.
And apart from the New Year
goodies, nothing more excites for most people are Gambling Session (like Black
Jack, in-between, sa ji bei or mahjong and several other games) with friendly stakes
and you can get to see the younger one will came out with all tricks and myths to get their luck to win, like placing the lucky orange on the bet. lol~ 向长辈拜年。。 We taught our kids the need to greet the elderly, wishing them a happy new year and longevity. This is a must every years helpers are also part of the family and get the angbao too Hahaha All kids got an angbao from my SIL Praying Greeting to the aunties uncles again, trying the goodies continue gambling accessories ![]() with Shaggy. He is so cute, carrying the pouch I got for him during christmas. Luv with Shaggy and cousin Tricia hahahhahaha shaggy pose! smile until like that. lol~ I always ask her to smile showing with teeth Smile like that too adult and formal I want baby smile but she always claim that it is not nice *roll eyes* my elder girls really resemble me when I'm little girl now also, just a darker version of my w/o makeup Love them much more than words can describe
I strict on them cause is for their good, not much on now but future
hope they won't go stray
with their Tricia 姑姑
Couldn't bare to gave out the angbao envelope, cause the print is too cute After that, in the evening, we went to my parent's house to 向他们拜年。 and have reunion dinner Aisleyne got really tired cause she never get to nap in the noon. until my sis set up the Wiii for them to play hahahahhaha Eat a Big Family Meal:One of the highlights of Chinese New Year is the food. then our Reunion Dinner![]() my mom makes the most yummilious marinated BBQ food 跟阿公拜年 my mom and dad laughed until so happy HUAT AH!!! my love!! ![]() Selfie
