title: How to prevent cross-contamination!

Did I mentioned that I mad love my colour-coded chopping board set which come with co-ordinating knives. I came to realize how important it is to have separate chopping boards and knives when I start introduce solid food to my elder girl, Amabel, especially to their immature stomach.

Knowing that in many cases of cross-contamination, chopping boards are a prime culprit. The tiny grooves left in the chopping boards when we cut the food with a blade, the grooves can harbor germs, and bacteria. It is very important to separate raw from cooked foods, in particular meats and poultry. Using the same cutting board for these different products can easily result in the transfer of bacteria from the raw meat to the fruits and vegetable. And since fruits and vegetables aren't always cooked, there will be no opportunity for the bacteria to be killed. For that reason, using separate, color-coded cutting boards for different food ingredients is a great way of preventing cross-contamination.

I don't wish to take any risk even till today, I insisted in practicing this as the basic food hygiene. Well, I believe a lot of mommies out there still doesn't aware how important it is cause as long as their kids are ok, everything is fine to them. Well, I think otherwise. I couldn't afford to take any risk when come to babies/kids and one's health. Especially when the mother was not the one cooking for their kids, may not be sure how these food are handle, I don't think those elderly and maid have knowledge about all these. Hence, risk is there.

I bought the following set of colour-coded chopping board with co-ordinating knives at damn expensive price of $200 over few months back. I would said no regret though I saw the cheaper just few days ago. This look awesomely nice and neat in my kitchen. No more 4 or 5, big and small size chopping board and knives lying and hanging around, it made me really mad looking at it around and when come to thinking which chopping board and knives is for what purpose, sometime I even forget and confuse even though I did tag it with colour string, ended up throwing away and buy a new one.

I were sourcing high and low in shopping mall and online kitchenware sites and finally found one that caught my eyes, that is Joseph Joseph, specialising in contemporary kitchenware, which is internationally recognised for producing some of the most stylish and technically innovative product. Their unique ability to match form and function has earned them global recognition for their multi-award-winning designs.

This size is definitely just nice for cutting and my small sink for easy washing

It is important on how to clean our Chopping Boards: i
I should be washed with hot, soapy water after each use, rinse with clear water and air dried them or I will pat them dry with clean paper towels. I don't dry them with a dishtowel cause it hang around the kitchen and get wiped on everything, making them spreading bacteria from one kitchen tool or surface to another.

And to my surprise, I spotted this super cheap colour-coded chopping boards set was selling in Mediya for just $29.90. I think for those that are looking for this kind of colour-coded chopping board shall consider this but too bad this doesn't come with colour-coded knives like mine, so cheap what more you wanna ask for right.

To add on, you don't need to adopt the entire system in order to cook more safely at home if you really find it really that difficult but at least having one separate, distinctively colored chopping board that's reserved just for raw meat will be good toward minimizing your chances of a food-related illness.

Dont be silly, when you cook a dish with meat+vege they end up in the same pot, no? if so there is no need for so many chopping boards and coloured knifes. as long as the board is washed clean after every use and always cut up vegetables before the meat when using the same board. If you prepare the ingredients fresh ie. chopping etc. & cook it right away to an appropriate temperature hence killing bacteria, there is no reason that food poisoning should occur. Generations have been healthy using just one chopping board. Besides, out body is colonised with natural commensal bacteria anyways and out immune system gets stronger when exposed to a small amount of bacteria. That is not to say we should not bother about food hygiene, I just think having different chopping boards for everything is over the top. perhaps at the most, a separate fruit board as we eat those raw. I dont see a problem with food that is cooked. -jayn

Hi jayn,

Thank for your feedback. You may think is silly cause you never read up more and research on it!?, a basic to have at least 2. Well, is still up to individual whether to practice a more caution prevention in food safety.
