Recently I fallen into the interest of lapbooking after doing some reading about it. It make the learning more interactive and interesting being a fantastic hands-on educational tool. Each component of the lapbook has given the learner an opportunity to concentrate on a specific aspect of the greater topic. Now every night I will complete one project with my girls. We are really into making use of our time for learning.

So what exactly is a lapbook? A lapbook is simply a file folder that contains a variety of “mini books,” foldables, and other material that cover detailed information about the lapbook’s central topic through all that fancy cutting and folding. A lapbook might accompany a unit study, elaborate on a book or serve as a guidebook or portfolio.

The resource printout.

Material used is just the printout, glue, scissor and colour pencil
Direction: Cut out animals.  Assemble pockets.  Color wheels on pockets. Glue pockets to file folder base (shutter-folded like a lapbook). Then let them match the number of animals to the correct pockets.

I assisting Amabel in cutting out the train car pocket and the animals printout. Get Aisleyne and Amabel to fold back up and wrap flaps around the back and glued down the flaps on each side and make it into a pocket. Then they colored on their favourite colour on the wheels

Then we pasted it on a cardboard book. That's the project done last night!
Both girls enjoy the learning of numbering through hand-on.

You don’t have to be a super-creative, scrapbooking kind of parent and there is no right way or wrong way to lapbook. I starting by a lapbook that has already been designed, then all I have to do is the cutting, folding and gluing. Now am perusing online photos of finished lapbooks and looking for sample to get ideas.

More to come...
